BMX racing bikes are built tough for all the abuse a BMX race track can throw at it. They typically have a longer wheelbase than freestyle BMX bikes, longer stays, no pegs and both front and rear brakes, although some models will vary.

Advanced rear disc brakes have replaced traditional rim brakes for increased stoppage power. Having a disc brake on the bikes increases its weight, but at the gain of better handling in wet weather on a muddy track.

Excluding the disc brake, all other components of BMX racing bikes are built from lightweight material such as aluminum or chromium molybdenum for frame construction and cranks. They are typically half the weight of freestyle bikes. The latest material being used is Hydroformed aluminum Podium for frames. These bikes are typically more expensive.

You will find BMX racing bikes ranging in price anywhere from $200 up to $1,000 or more. But it's possilble to find a quality BMX bike at a lower price, especially used like in these auctions.
