BMX Bike Tires

The kind of BMX bike tires you purchase depends on the kind of bike you ride such as dirt, freestyle and jump. Most of the tire design is somewhere between road and dirt tires, even BMX dirt tires are not like the treads you find in mountain bike tires. BMX tire tread for dirt tracks is designed for both speed, traction and gripping performance for fast straight-a-ways, tight cornering and subsequent acceleration through turns. They typically will have larger lugs for better traction.

On the other hand, freestyle tires and tread are designed for both pavement and even indoor arena type surfaces. High-end tires allow for higher psi pressure. The higher inflation creates a tire that is more resistant to rolling and damage from the high pressure on the tire, rims and especially sidewalls when landing jumps. Make sure you double check your tire size to know exactly what you need. Note that the slimmer BMX tire and rim sizes (20 x 1 1/8-3/8 and 24 x 1 1/8-3/8) cannot be swapped out with each other or with 20 x 1.5 or 1.75 tire and rims.
