BMX Bike Brakes
Do you know what kind of BMX bike brake you need to replace on your bike? The two common brake types on BMX bikes include U-brakes and V-brakes or linear pull brakes. If you have a trail or street style BMX bike, you most likely will have U-brakes or 990 style. Why is it important to know what kind of brakes you have? Because if your bike uses U-brakes, you cannot replace them with V-brakes and vice-versa. If you do not have a clue as to what kind of brakes you have, you can tell by looking at the way the brakes are mounted on your bike.
If your bike has the brake mounts are on the bottoms of the seat stays or the top of the chain stays, then you most likely have U-brakes. On the other hand, if your brake are mounted on top of the seat stays, then you probably have V-brakes. If your bike is an older model and does not have welded brake mounts on the frame, such as caliper style brakes then you may want to upgrade. You can get a brake plate for either a U-brake or V-brake which then can be used to replace either style.
